The GAA, in conjunction with Leinster GAA are now welcoming applications for the role of Games Development Officer & Course Tutor in South East Technological University (SETU) in County Carlow.
Role Summary
The role holder will oversee the development and delivery of the Gaelic Games components of the BA in Sports Coaching and Business Management (Gaelic Games) at SETU Carlow and be responsible for the co-ordination & promotion of Gaelic Games in the university.
The role holder shall be required to work 39 hours per week, which will include weekends and evenings when required, and the hours may vary depending on seasonal changes and shall be based in SETU, Carlow Campus.
Principle Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Work closely with SETU Head of Department Sports Media and Marketing, Director of Sport and Coach Education Manager in Leinster GAA, in setting out the structure to support the development and delivery of the Player Development, Club Development and Coach Education strands of the BA in Sports Coaching & Business Management (Gaelic Games) at SETU Carlow;
- In conjunction with other relevant staff members coordinate, design, deliver and assess elements of the Club Development, Coach and Player Development modules;
- Oversee the selection (interview & CAO process) and orientation for all students on the BA in Sports Coaching & Business management (Gaelic Games) programme;
- Provide ongoing mentoring and support to the BA in Sports Coaching & Business Management (Gaelic Games) students;
- Work in conjunction with the Gaelic Games support team at SETU Carlow in enhancing and developing the partnership with the University and in particular the BA in Sports Coaching and Business Management (Gaelic Games);
- Liaise with the Coach Education Manager in Leinster GAA on the delivery & support of Provincial Coach Education programs;
- Establish, manage and maintain effective partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders;
- Assist and support university staff on student work placements and providing coaching opportunities in local schools.
Essential Criteria:
- Relevant Third Level Degree (Minimum level 8 NFQ);
- Minimum Award 1 Gaelic Games Coaching Qualification;
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of best-practice coaching, learning and development strategies and tools.
- Proven people management skills with proven ability to build and maintain strong business and team relationships, and manage conflict;
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills;
- Excellent administrative and IT skills with a strong working knowledge of IT related packages and systems;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal and written);
- Ability to work independently on own initiative and perform as part of a team;
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills;
- Established ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines; hands-on approach to getting things done with a demonstrable ability to work well under pressure.

Desirable Criteria:
- At least 3 years’ experience of working in the GAA or similar sporting organisation (Voluntary or Professional Capacity);
- Clear and detailed knowledge of the GAA’s coaching schemes and initiatives;
- Experience of coaching up to and including senior level;
- Coaching Ireland tutor qualification.
Other Requirements:
- Own car with a full clean driving license;
- Have completed the GAA Child Protection in Sport Awareness/Safeguarding 1 programme;
- Ability to work and attend evening and weekend meetings/activities in addition to normal day to day activities.
