Meet The Speaker – Michael Fennelly
On Saturday 8th of June the TURAS Club Conference will take place in DCU St Pats Campus. Ahead of it we take a close look at the speaker line up. First up is Kilkenny GAA’s Michael Fennelly;
Michael is a celebrated figure in the world of hurling, renowned for his illustrious playing career and more recently, his contributions to coaching and sports performance.
Michael’s own playing career is nothing short of remarkable. His tenure with the Kilkenny county team spanned twelve seasons from 2006 to 2017, during which he won eight All-Ireland medals, including a record-equalling four championships in a row from 2006 to 2009. He captained Kilkenny to the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2009 and was named All-Star and Hurler of the Year in 2011
After retiring from playing, Michael transitioned into coaching and sports performance where his focus lies in nurturing talent at the underage level. Micahael also served as the manager of the Offaly senior hurling team from 2019 to 2022 and is currently the Performance Lead with Kilkenny GAA.
At the conference, Michael will share his extensive knowledge on the importance of designing coaching sessions. His presentation will emphasise the critical role of planning and structuring sessions to maximise player development and team performance. Additionally, he will discuss the importance of interpersonal skills in coaching, highlighting how effective communication, relationship-building, and motivational techniques can significantly influence a coach’s ability to inspire and lead their team to success.
