Applications Open For Leadership & Management (Gaelic Games Course)
Applicants are now being sought for the Certificate in Leadership & Management (Gaelic Games) course offered by I.T. Carlow in association with Leinster GAA.
The aim of this course is to compliment the values of the GAA and support its managers and coaches to learn new ways of managing and leading in a sporting context. The programme has been carefully constructed to acknowledge and develop the leadership and management skills required by those involved in team management and leadership roles in a dynamic sporting environment.
This is an intensive short programme to run in the off season and comprises of six contact days starting in November, with continuous assessment coursework throughout. Classes generally take place on Friday evenings and full day Saturday
Entry Requirements:
- Applicants will come through the GAA.
- All students on this programme will be required to have a Level 6 qualification.
- Applicants without a Level 6 can apply using the Recognition of Prior Learning route and will be considered on a case by case basis.
Day 1
At the end of this unit students should
– Display knowledge of theories of management and leadership
– Understand key concepts of Emotional Intelligence and its relationship to leadership
– Develop own vision based on understanding own personality profile and core values
Day 2
At the end of this unit students should
– Understand role relationship building and how it affects individual and team performance
– Appraise and apply good coaching skills – listening, questioning, raising awareness
– Display use of coaching models
– Demonstrate and assess personal responsibility
– Understand impact of own thought process and behaviours in managing performance
– Understand resistance (gestalt model)
Day 3
At the end of this unit students should
– Determine innate human needs
– Understand and demonstrate understanding of team dynamics
– Appraise and have ability to develop healthy team norms
– Understand key concepts of sustainable team performance
Day 4
At the end of this unit students should
– Appraise elements of self-care and wellbeing (player, employee, volunteer)
– Progress in one-to-one coaching
Day 5
At the end of this unit students should
– Understand elements of transactional analysis
– Understand critical and creative thinking
