Nowlan Park To Host Under 21 Final On 5th July
Bord Gais Energy Leinster U21 HC Semi-Finals:
Kilkenny 1-21, Westmeath 1-11
Wexford 3-16, Carlow 1-12
Nowlan Park will host the Leinster Under 21 Hurling final on Wednesday evening, 5th July, and it promises to be another exciting evening with Kilkenny taking on Wexford.
The Cats came through a stern test at TEG Cusack Park against Westmeath, who famously knocked them out of this championship in 2016.
Another shock looked on the cards as Westmeath led at half time and were on level terms after ten minutes of the second half.
But Kilkenny dominated the last 20 minutes and made sure of victory with a late goal from top-scorer Alan Murphy.
A James Goonery goal had given Westmeath a great boost in the first half and they led by 1-7 to 0-9 at the interval. However, despite a gallant display, they couldn’t halt the march of Eddie Brennan’s outfit.
Meanwhile, at Innovate Wexford Park, a hat-trick of goals from Cathal Dunbar inspired the Model County to see off a spirited display by Carlow.
Dunbar fired home goals in the 10th, 28th and 45th minutes. Wexford held a 2-6 to 0-5 lead at half time, but Carlow had the wind in the second half and although a Conor Foley goal gave them a glimmer of hope, they couldn’t narrow the gap sufficiently to worry their opponents.
