Meet The Speaker – Game Sense Coaching
On Saturday 8th of June the TURAS Club Conference will take place in DCU St Pats Campus. Ahead of it we take a close look at the speaker line up. Next up is the Game Sense Coaching crew of the Lavin Brothers.
The Lavin brothers, Stephen, Peter, and David, are at the forefront of innovative coaching in the GAA with their GameSense Coaching approach. This trio of educators and sports enthusiasts have developed a coaching philosophy that emphasises games-based activities, which are designed to develop skills and tactical awareness in a dynamic and engaging manner.
The brothers have a rich background in Gaelic Games, having been involved in various capacities from players to coaches. Their website, GameSenseCoaching.com, serves as a hub for coaches at all levels, offering over 300 activities and resources to create enjoyable and effective training sessions. Their approach is particularly beneficial for child and youth coaches, as it aligns with the principles of creating a fun learning environment that fosters decision-making and problem-solving skills through small-sided games.
At the conference, the Lavin brothers will conduct an outdoor practical coaching session tailored for coaches working with children up to the Under 11/12 age group. They will demonstrate how to implement their GameSense methodology, focusing on games-based activities that not only teach fundamental skills but also encourage enjoyment and participation among young players.
