Naomh Éanna Entering Uncharted Territory
This Sunday in O’Moore Park Portloaise Naomh Éanna of Wexford will enter into uncharted territory as they take on Camross in the AIB Leinster Senior Hurling Club Championship.
Two weeks ago saw the Gorey side claim their first ever County title as they defeated reigning champions St Martins in Innovate Wexford Park. They were relentless in the pressure they exerted on the Wexford town side never giving the usually dominant Martins a chance to build their running game. Star Inter County man Conor McDonald was in scintillating form finishing the day with 2-01 from play. These goals proved crucial in the end with one coming in either half as they men in green ran out victors on a score-line of 2-11 to 0-13. They will be hoping that the momentum built up during this breakthrough success can set them on the road to a date with Croke Park on St Patricks day next year.
Standing in the way of that dream are back to back Laois Champions Camross. They saw off the challenge of Rathdowney-Errill in the O’Moore County decider. A game that reaffirmed the importance of goals saw Camross find the net twice. In the first half it was Eoghan Gaughan bagging the significant score to leave them 1-08 to 0-08 up at the break. Nine minutes into the second half and the green flag was flying again as this time Mark Dowling provided the finish. These scores set the defending champions well on their way and despite a late surge from Rathdowney the held out to win 2-15 to 0-19.
Can the Gorey side shake off the shackles of the rookie tag or will the experience of Camross win out in the end? Head to O’Moore Park Portlaoise this weekend and find out.
