Mullingar Host Moorefield
TEG Cusack Park will see reigning AIB Leinster Senior Football Champions Moorefield begin their 2018 campaign. Their hosts Mullingar Shamrocks will hope that a first Senior Westmeath crown in 6 years is not the highlight of their season.
Moorefield arrive fresh off a 3 point victory over Athy in the Kildare Senior Football Final. They were full value for this victory as two first half goals from Mark McDermott and Eddie Heavey set them well on their way to retaining their title. There will however, be slight concerns heading into this weekend, that despite leading 2-05 to 0-02 points at the break, the Newbridge outfit let Athy creep back into the game. Should a similar lapse occur this weekend Shamrocks will surely hope to profit.
Mullingar Shamrocks will still be flying high following their victory over Mullingar rivals St Lomans last weekend. Similar to Moorefield Shamrocks found the net twice with Paddy Fagan and Denis Caroon providing the finishes. Shamrocks were made to work to the very end for their victory as Lomans only trailed by a solitary score deep into injury time. They will be hoping that having overcame the challenge of last year’s Leinster finalists they can now take care of the Champions.
