Monday Round Up
Below is a brief round up of the action that took place over the weekend in each of the Counties Senior Championships.
Carlow
Sunday saw Netwatch Dr Cullen Park play host to the Carlow Senior Hurling Championship with Mount Leinster Rangers facing off against familiar rivals St Mullins.
In a free scoring game the goals proved the difference as Mount Leinster Rangers once again won the day on a score line of 3-10 to 1-13.
This sets them up with a clash against Coolderry (Offaly) on the 4th of November.
Dublin
Last weekend saw Dublin learn who the final pairing in the Senior Football Championship would be. The first Semi Final saw Kilmacud and Ballyboden St Endas clash on Saturday Evening. Once again goals proved to be the key as the Stillorgan men won on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-09.
The second Semi Final saw three in a row chasing St Vincents clash with St Judes. In a similar vain to the first match it came down to goals being the difference as St Judes stopped the Champions on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-08.
Kildare
The Kildare Senior Hurling Championship Final took place over the weekend with Celbridge and Ardclough facing off.
In what turned out to be a high scoring game Celbrideg eventually prevailed by 2 points. The final score was 2-16 to 1-15.
Celbridge will now await the victors of the Kilkenny Intermediate Champions in the AIB Leinster Club Championship on the 3rd of November.
Kilkenny
The Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship continues o try and cath up with itself following a spate of draws. Saturday saw the remaining Quarter Final eventually reach a conclusion as Erin’s Own saw off James Stephens despite the conditions. The comer men won out on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-13 and will now face Ballyhale Shamrocks in the Semi Final.
The first Semi Final between Bennetsbridge and Clara went ahead on Sunday. In what was an extremely high scoring affair it was the ever rising Bennetsbridge team who took the spoils 3-19 to 2-17.
Laois
Sunday saw the Laois Senior Football Championship reach its conclusion as Portloaise faced off against the O’Dempseys.
The town team proved too strong for the O’Dempseys winning out on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-16. They now await the winners of the Westmeath and Kildare Champions in the Quarter Final stages of the AIB Leinster Senior Football Championship.
Longford
The Longford Senior Football Final Replay took place over the weekend after Mullinalaghta and Abbeylara could not be separated last weekend.
Mullinalaghta ran out comfortable winners to be corwned 2018 Champions. The final scoreline was 2-14 to 1-02. They now have a bye into the Leinster Quarter Finals where they await the victors of a clash between either the Wicklow Champions or Rhode (Offaly).
Meath
The Meath Senior Football Championship also reached its conclusion over the weekend. St Peters Dunboyne went head to head with Summerhill.
The Dunboyne men proved to strong and won out by 5 points in the end. The final score was 1-11 to 0-09. St Peters now await the victors of the Wexford Championship in the first round of the Leinster Championship.
Offaly
Offaly also learned who would be their 2018 Senior Football Champions over the weekend. The final pairing saw Ferbane face off against the ever dominant Rhode. The Rhode men once again prevailed to be crowned Champions for the 29th time on a scoreline of 1-18 to 0-10. They now await the winners of the Wicklow Championship in the First Round of Leinster.
Westmeath
The Westmeath Senior Hurling Championship learned its Final contenders over the weekend as both the Semi Finals were played out. In the first game Raharney proved to strong for Lough Lene Gaels winning through on a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-15.
The other Semi Final pairing saw Clonkill face off against Castletown Geoghan. Clonkill eventually won what turned out to be a goal fest 2-18 to 5-07. They will now play Raharney in two weeks time to see who will be the 2018 Champions.
Wexford
Wexford must wait a little longer to learn who will be the Senior Football Champions of 2018. Kilanrin and Shelmalliers played out a thriller at the end of which they could not be separated. A last minute equaliser for Shelmalliers means they will have to do it all over again as it finished 2-11 a piece.
Wicklow
Similar to Wexford, Wicklows wait for their Senior Football Champions must also go on, as nothing could separate St Pats and Rathnew at the final whistle. Rathnew looked all set to retain their title once again but a late late leveler from St Pats means a replay is required. It finished St Pats 1-10 Rathnew 0-13.
