Commercial and Communications Officer – Leinster GAA
Job Description
Leinster GAA is the Provincial Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) sports of hurling, Gaelic football, rounders and handball in the province of Leinster.
Role/Purpose:
Responsible for the development and implementation of all Public Relations (PR), Media and Commercial related strategies for Leinster GAA to cover all major events, and to raise the profile of the Provincial Council.
Reports/Accountable to:
Provincial Secretary of Leinster GAA and its Management committee. The role holder will also have a secondary reporting relationship with the GAA Communications Executive for an interim period.
Location:
Based primarily at the Leinster GAA Offices in Portlaoise.
Principle Accountabilities:
Public Relations
- The continued development and delivery of the PR strategy for Leinster GAA.
- Provide support for the delivery of all PR strategies and programmes at County board and Provincial Council levels and ensure their ongoing development.
- Deliver the Commercial and Communications strategy for all major events held by Leinster GAA.
- Liaise with all external contractors where required on design, marketing and event management initiatives.
- Ensure information days and training programmes are delivered at County and Provincial board levels.
- Manage and create content for all digital and social media.
- Advise stakeholders on communications, marketing and digital media use.
- Provide advice, support and guidance to county and club Public Relations Officers throughout the Province on PR best practice.
Media
- Manage and develop strong relations with key media contacts.
- Look for opportunities to raise the profile of, and actively promote, Leinster GAA using all forms of the media where possible.
- Responsible for liaising with the media on all Leinster GAA business, respond to queries, submit information, highlight events etc.
- Organise media launches or specific initiatives. Ensure all relevant information is gathered and submitted to the media from across the province.
- Liaise with provincial administrators where necessary to gather and disseminate information.
- Prepare or edit organisational publications.
- On the advice of Management, represent Leinster GAA as spokesperson when required.
Website and online content
- Responsible for the updating of Leinster GAA’s website.
- Ensure all design aspects of the website support the Communications and Marketing strategy of Leinster GAA.
- Liaise with all stakeholders and sponsors in relation to Leinster GAA’s website.
- Maximise the use of social media platforms and online content in order to raise the profile of Gaelic Games and Leinster GAA.
Commercial
- Manage all communications with existing commercial partners.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders as well as potential, new commercial partners.
- Ensure adherence to commercial partners rights and benefits.
- Create a brand strategy and management framework to strengthen the Leinster GAA brand presence and awareness.
- Represent Leinster GAA at commercial events.
The role holder will also undertake any other such projects or responsibilities as may reasonably be deemed appropriate by his/her Manager.
Essential Criteria:
Third level degree in a relevant area (public relations, journalism, communications or marketing) or a minimum of three years’ prior experience working in a sports marketing or sports media role.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
Strong persuasion, influencing and negotiation skills.
Demonstrably strong ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrably strong ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Leinster GAA and its activities as well as the Association as a whole.
Creative with a demonstrable ability to act independently and on own initiative;
Demonstrable ability to deliver results in high pressure situations and cope with strict deadlines.
Strong administrative and organisational skills.
Excellent IT and social media skills.
Desirable Criteria:
Previous experience in the development and delivery of a Communications strategy.
Previous experience working in a media facing role within the sports industry.
