Massive Drama in SFC Quarter finals
Reigning champs St Vincent’s are out of the AIB GAA Leinster G.A.A.Club senior football championship after a Battle of Aughrim defeat to Rathnew.
The star-studded Dublin three in a row winners were undone by a dramatic 56th minute James Stafford goal as the Wicklow men recorded a famous 1-13 to 1-9 victory.
Rathnew were full value for the win as they made a wasteful Vinnies pay a heavy price and Harry Murphy’s men now dream of a repeat of their 2001 Leinster triumph.
The Wicklow champs will meet Moorefield from Kildare in the semi-final in two weeks time.
Moorefield showed character and class to stun Portlaoise in O’Moore Pk 1-9 to 0-11.
Trailing by three points with five minutes left, an Eanna O’Connor goal and late point by Niall Hurley-Lunch, after a great block by their defender James Murray, thwarted Portlaoise and secured the win.
The second semi-final on Nov 26 is a Meath-Westmeath affair.
Simmonstown won their first ever Leinster senior club game when the back to back Meath champs saw off Starlights of Wexford 1–12 to 0-8.
A great comeback by St Loman’s from Mullingar defeated St Columba’s of Mullinalaghta by 1-12 to 1-11.
Rathnew have blown this race wide open!
