Wexford Win Out Against Louth

December 8th, 2021

On Monday night Wexford Schools travelled to Bray Emmett’s to take on Louth. A chance to progress to the Quarter Final Draw of the Br Bosco Cup was on the cards.

Wexford who arrived off the back of a big win over Dundalk Schools started the stronger with an early goal from Shamey O’Hagan. This combined with fines scores from Cian Hughes and Darby Purcell looked to be sending the model county on their way. However, the men from the wee county struck back before the break. A fine goal from full forward Luke Hanan put them right back into contention and sent the sides in on a score line of 1-08 to 1-03 in favour of Wexford.

The third quarter proved to be decisive as Wexford kicked on again the rattled off some quick scores in succession thanks to Corey Dunbar, Luke Darley, Rían Fitzpatrick and Jack Higgins. Then the critical moment of the game arrived when Hughes was quickest to react to a fine stop from Louth keeper Andrew Wogan, finishing the resulting rebound to the net. This meant there was little to no way back for Louth, to their credit they never gave up and finished off the game by kicking the last 3 points on the trot. However, it proved to be just a little too late, Wexford look a fine side and with an array of scorers can look ahead with confidence to a Br Bosco Cup Quarter Final. The final score from Bray was 2-12 to 1-08.
