TURAS Mentorship Programme Launched

June 7th, 2023

Leinster GAA are delighted to launch a Mentorship Programme which will begin to be rolled out across the Province under the already successful TURAS banner.

The aim of this Programme is to give a more bespoke and individual development path to coaches within their club setting. The Programme seeks to put the coach at the very centre of the learning process, by pairing up with an experienced Mentor coaches can engage in topics they chose and learn in a ongoing basis as opposed to in a formal education setting.

Speaking of the Programme Leinster GAA Learning & Development Manager Jamie Queeney said This Programme will Serve as a resource in the advancement of coaching practices right throughout the Province. It will look to continue the excellent work that TURAS has been doing in clubs for the last number of years.

Overall, we want to support coaches in their development, enhance the quality of their coaching, and ultimately improve performance and satisfaction of individual players and team’s.”

The main benefits of the Programme are as follows;

  • Building a Coaching Community:

A mentoring program can help to create a sense of community among coaches in the GAA. Mentors can help to facilitate networking opportunities such as communities of practice, and encourage coaches to share their experiences, challenges, and successes with each other.

  • Improving Coaching Skills and Behaviours

The programme will help coaches to improve their coaching skills by providing them with feedback, guidance, and support. Coach Developers will observe coaches during training sessions and matches, and provide feedback on their coaching style, communication skills, and other behaviours.

  • Developing Knowledge of the Game:

A Mentoring programme can help coaches develop a deeper understanding of the game, including its rules, strategies, and techniques. Mentors can help coaches analyse games, identify areas for improvement, and develop game plans.

  • Supporting Professional Development:

A mentoring program can help staff and coaches in the GAA to advance their careers. Mentors can provide advice on coach development initiatives within Leinster, and how to pursue coaching qualifications, network with other coaches, and how to find coaching opportunities.
