Growing Our Games, Sustaining the Future

February 26th, 2026

Leinster GAA has officially launched its new five-year Strategic Plan, “Strategy 2026–2031: Growing Our Games, Sustaining the Future”, setting out a clear and ambitious roadmap for the continued development of Gaelic Games across the province.

The plan outlines a collective vision for a connected, inclusive and sustainable Association, one that empowers clubs, counties and communities to thrive both on and off the field. Built on extensive consultation, research and engagement with clubs, counties, volunteers and stakeholders across the twelve counties, the strategy provides direction and alignment for the years ahead.

Structured around five key pillars;

  1. Coaching & Games
  2. Infrastructure
  3. Governance
  4. Club, County & Community
  5. Communications

The plan reflects both the challenges and opportunities facing Leinster GAA as it celebrates 125 years of proud service to the Association. From strengthening coach education and referee development, to investing in infrastructure oversight, modernising governance, supporting volunteers and revitalising communications, the strategy aims to ensure Gaelic Games remain strong in every parish and community across the province.

Speaking at the launch, outgoing Cathaoirleach Derek Kent reflected on the importance of planning for the future while honouring the traditions of the past.

“This Strategic Plan is more than a document it is a commitment. A commitment to strengthen our clubs, to support our volunteers, and to ensure that every child and player in Leinster has the opportunity to participate, develop and belong.
Over the past 125 years, Leinster GAA has evolved enormously, and this plan ensures we continue that evolution in a thoughtful, sustainable and ambitious way. I am immensely proud of the work that has gone into shaping this strategy, and I have every confidence that it will guide Leinster GAA positively for years to come.”

The strategy also places a strong emphasis on responding to demographic change, enhancing volunteer support, improving financial and governance practices, and strengthening communication structures to better connect with members and supporters.

Incoming Cathaoirleach Martin Byrne outlined his commitment to ensuring the strategy is delivered in a practical and meaningful way.

“It is a great honour to take on the role of Cathaoirleach at such an important moment for Leinster GAA. This plan provides a clear and practical framework for how we move forward together.
Its success will not be measured by words on a page, but by the tangible impact it has in our clubs, on our pitches and in our communities. By working closely with counties, clubs and staff, and by respecting the diversity and autonomy of each county, we can ensure Gaelic Games in Leinster continue to grow, adapt and thrive for the next generation.”

The development of the strategy involved significant engagement, including surveys, focus groups and structured consultation with stakeholders across the province. It also aligns with broader Association objectives, including integration efforts and national governance frameworks.
