Floodlit drama in Bord na Móna Leinster GAA Series

January 3rd, 2018

BORD NA MÓNA LEINSTER GAA SERIES

In football, holders Dublin again fielded a youthful and inexperienced team under the baton of 1995 All-Ireland hero Paul Clarke.

Despite an early fine goal from Ballyboden ace Colm Basquel, the Dubs were clawed back by an Offaly side who dominated the second half but squandered too much – but deserved a share of the spoils.

Louth, last year’s beaten finalists, impressed their new boss Pete McGrath with a strong display against Kildare, while Meath edged out Carlow who had won their opening round tie against Wicklow last weekend.

In hurling, Pat Gilroy got off to the perfect start as the new Dublin senior hurling boss with Fionn Ó Riain Broinn bagging two goals in a rout of Meath at the NGDC in Abbotstown.

After an absence in recent years where they fielded the U21s instead, Brian Cody was back with the Cats in the Walsh Cup and they blitzed Laois with a youthful team that proved there is still talent to keep the black and amber in the shake up.

Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford needed some great striking from Lee Chin and a Cathal Dunbar goal to just see off a spirited Carlow.
