Looking To Break Their Maiden

October 25th, 2018

Sunday will see Innovate Wexford Park play host to two teams setting out in search of their first ever Leinster Title as Shelmaliers (Wex) and St Peters Dunboyne (MH) lock horns.

The home team are entering into uncharted territory having been crowned Wexford Champions for the first time last Saturday. They saw off a resurgent Kilanerin side in a replay after the teams finished deadlocked the previous week.  They proved that fitness would never be an issue, by shaking the shackles of a 6 day turn around to outscore their opponents by 16 points. Goals proved the key difference as the Over-The-Water men had 4 different finishers with the drawn hero Simon Donoghue, Eoghan Nolan, Ross Banville and AJ Lehane all finding the net. They will be hoping that the week’s recuperation stands them in as good stead this weekend.

St Peters Dunboyne while not quite as inexperienced are also on a new adventure. They secured their 3rd ever Meath crown a fortnight ago, having previously won it in 98 and 05. Here they overcame Summerhill by four points on a score line of 1-11 to 0-09. A late goal from former Dublin representative Stuart Lowdes proved the difference. On the face of it they had a much tougher road to Leinster than their opponents however they will be hoping the extra weeks rest can see them through.

The winners on Sunday will have the luxury of being able to enjoy the Bank Holiday Monday while assessing their next opponent. They will be facing either Kilmacud Crokes or St Judes of Dublin in the Quarter Finals on November 11th.

Throw in on Sunday is 1.30pm
